Staff Bios
Pastor Gary Van Heukelom graduated from Western Theological Seminary in 1979. Before coming senior pastor at Sibley First Reformed Church, he was Associate Pastor of Youth and Education in Wisconsin, and Senior Pastor in churches in Illinois and South Dakota. He comes from a family that is very involved with ministry. His father, the late Rev. Norman Van Heukelom, was an RCA minister, as is his brother, Rev. Greg Van Heukelom. His brother-in-law is a minister with the Christian Reformed denomination. Pastor Gary and his wife Ruth live near the church and can be reached by contacting the church office.Gary Van Heukelom - Senior PastorPastor Arturo Gomez works at First Reformed Church in Sibley and in Estherville, Iowa during the week. His job duties are many. Meeting new people, Bible Studies, translating for local schools, church services (Saturday evening in Estherville and Sunday evenings in Sibley), to name a few.Pastor Arturo is passionate about the "unchurched" and does a lot of his work by being out in the community trying to reach out to people.Pastor Arturo is married to Luz and they have three children; Grace, Daniel and Damaris. He graduated from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN in 2006 with a Master of Divinity in Youth Ministry. He absolutely loves to talk with teens and tweens about Jesus! He's also a "rabid" Nebraska Cornhusker fan, having grown up in Omaha. Some of the other things that Mike likes include a good Chinese buffet (must have sesame chicken!), Facebook, and playing softball on a hot, sticky summer night.He's the proud papa to various kinds of aquarium fish as well as a Betta named Beta.  Jeannette Juffer is not new to the secretarial world as she just completed 45 years of service as an elementary school secretary. Jeannette grew up on farms near Larchwood and Sibley, IA and Rushmore, MN. She graduated from high school in Worthington, MN, and a year and a half after graduation, she started working for Sibley School which later became Sibley-Ocheyedan Schools. In August 2009, she was hired by First Reformed Church as their Communications Assistant. This position is part time and a perfect job since it keeps her busy but also provides free time when she can enjoy baking, walking, and being creative with her nieces and nephews. Email Jeannette
Brenda Post has lived is Sibley her entire life. She attended and graduated from Sibley-Ocheyedan School and went on to two years of college at Mankato State in Mankato, Minnesota. After college, she worked in a couple of jobs, Pizza Hut, C.C.S.I., (working with adults with disabilites) and Exopack. In the summer of 2002, she was diagnoised with Multiple Sclerosis. Blindness set in and she had to quit Exopack. The first two years were rough, but the MS seemed to slow down and she decided to explore the possibility of a part time job. First Reformed Church was the answer. Brenda started being the church secretary in March of 2007.Brenda is the parent of a wonderful son, Ethan. (He just turned 13!!)
